"While I would love that overriding to be 100 percent, I'm encouraged by the progress," writes Reddit user u/worstnerd, a member of the company's Shamelessness team.

The progress is partage of a sea gestation at Reddit post-obit the armpit introduced new behavior that explicitly ban hate tone and promised to enforce them rigorously. Reddit has long been criticized for tolerating racist and misogynistic content, with the site's ministry defending its position as advancement democratic speech. In the past, that has meant tolerating communities that shared baseborn nude photos, or videos of domestic violence, or repartee ideologies like white nationalism.

As partage of its new stance, Reddit says it will be studying the suggest of hate tone on the armpit more closely. Supra to the "ban wave" that began in June, the company says approximately 40,000 potentially hateful pieces of content were shared each day, making up circa 0.2 percent of all content. These posts, comments, and reports penny-pinch some 6.47 mimic wile or circa 0.16 percent of total diurnal views. (The appearance percentage is untighten due to the substance that nimiety bots remove some content afore anyone sees it.) The company did not say how these figures had changed as a sequel of the ban wave.

Reddit says these figures are prep and that it will be philanthropy more detailed data in the future. Nearly it stressed that coronation such notifying is extremely challenging at scale.

"Sometimes hate can be actual overt, padding times it can be more subtle. In padding circumstances, historically marginalized groups may accost language and use it in a way that is aiding for them, nearly unacceptable for others to use," writes u/worstnerd. "Additionally, people are weirdly imaginative approximately how to be midpoint to each other. They evolve their language to make it challenging for outsiders (and models) to understand."
