Biometric security has moved beyond just fingerprints and deal with recognition to vein-based authentication. Unfortunately, hackers have already identified a way to crack that, too. In accordance to Motherboard, security scientists at the Chaos Communication Congress hacking conference within Leipzig, Germany showed a new model wax hand of which they used to eliminate a vein authentication system by using a wax model hands.

Vein authentication typically uses a computer system to scan the shape, size plus location of a person's veins in their hand. Those patterns have to be able to be discovered each time the system scans the individuals hand. To be able to fool that will security check, the researchers took 2, 500 photos of a hand by using a modified SLR camera that had the infrared filter removed to better spotlight veins under the epidermis. They then took all those images and created a wax hand with the information on the person's veins toned right in. That wax mock-up was enough in order to bypass the vein authentication system.

To be very clear, the method used by the security researchers isn't the one which the average person could easily replicate. As the researchers said images coming from as far away as five meters (about sixteen feet) are good adequate, snapping enough to create a reliable model might be a challenge without lots of access to the hand within question. It's a more extensive cracking process than, point out, fingerprint ID that may potentially be hacked simply by lifting a person's fingerprint from an item they have touched. That still presents a concern that security systems can become manipulated with cheap plus easily available materials.
