Biometric security has moved past just fingerprints and deal with recognition to vein-based authentication. Unfortunately, hackers have already determined a way to crack that, too. Based to Motherboard, security scientists at the Chaos Connection Congress hacking conference in Leipzig, Germany showed a model wax hand of which they used to eliminate a vein authentication system utilizing a wax model palm.

Vein authentication typically utilizes a computer system to check the shape, size plus location of a person's veins in their hand. Those patterns have to be recognized each time the system scans the individuals hand. So as to fool that security check, the researchers took 2, 500 photos of a hand by using a modified SLR camera that will had the infrared filtration removed to better emphasize veins under the skin. They then took all those pictures and developed wax hand with the details of the person's veins attractive right in. That polish mock-up was enough in order to bypass the vein authentication system.

To be obvious, the method used by the safety researchers isn't one that an average joe could easily replicate. While the researchers said images from as far away as five meters (about of sixteen feet) are good adequate, snapping enough to create a reliable model will be a challenge without lots regarding use of the hand in question. That is a more rigorous cracking process than, say, fingerprint ID that can potentially be hacked simply by lifting a person's fingerprint from an object they have touched. This still presents a concern that security systems can become manipulated with cheap in addition to easily available materials.
