There have only ever been winners since the prize began giving out at the Angoulême Comic Book Festival. Chloé Wary won the France Télévisions Public Prize for Saison des roses (FLBLB edition) in 2020, the inaugural year of the award.
Léa Murawiec's Le Grand vide (Editions 2024) was published the previous year, followed in 2021 by Leonie Bischoff's Anas Nin, on the Sea of Lies (Editions Casterman). So you may say to yourself that it is normal for France Télévisions to favor women authors more than authors, than the public service patati et patata… And no, we do not favor anyone, neither women nor men, because it is well the public who ultimately decides.
You'll learn how from us. Léa Murawiec receiving the Fauve d'Angoulême Public Prize France Televisions in 2022 for "Le Grand vide".
On November 28, a press conference was held to reveal the official selection of the Angoulême festival. (Antoine Guibert - for FIBD/9eArt) Where do the albums come from?. Forty-six albums were selected.
This selection aims to reflect a year of production of French or foreign comics translated into French. From this vast list, we select eight titles.
"We" ? They are journalists and comic book readers at France Télévisions. This year, we are eight (1) with a few well-known names like Michel Field or Augustin Trapenard, but also obscure and needy passionate editors like myself.
We met by videoconference on December 29 after having read the 46 titles in one month. We have selected eight albums.
The eight albums in competition for the France Télévisions 2023 Public Prize at the Angoulême Comics Festival. (France Télévisions) On what criteria were the eight albums in the running selected? There are no strict criteria.
We are attentive to young authors but not only since, for example The Last Queen by Jean-Marc Rochette, a seasoned draftsman also from Transperceneige (1982) was selected. We are careful not to concentrate too many titles from the same publisher.
We also try to respect a balance between authors. There are three women for every five men this year.
Five or six albums appeared fairly quickly in our common choices and it's pretty much like that every year. Two albums were the subject of reasoned discussions.
When it blocks, we vote and the majority wins. Result, we have selected: Ashes and Foam by Ludovic Debeurme, The Color of Things by Martin Panchaud, The Last Queen by Jean-Marc Rochette, Hoka Hey by Neyef, They burn by Aniss el Hamouri, Merel by Clara Lodewick, Naphtaline of Sole Otero and Roxane sells her panties of Maybelline Skvortzoff.
When does the public intervene? After the selection of these eight albums, it is the public's turn to decide. The "audience" is made up of nine comic book viewers (2).
To select and recruit the members of this jury, we launched a call for applications on social networks and our branches, which ended on December 28. We asked for a cover letter and sent them a questionnaire to find out their tastes in comics and reading.
We received approximately 300 applications this year. We selected nine.
The selection criteria are multiple. All members come from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region for the sake of geographical proximity to the festival.
We try to have the most varied age categories, almost equality between men and women. On the other hand, we do not take into account the profession or the social origin of the candidates.

They will have lunch, deliberate and vote. We, France Télévisions, absolutely do not intervene in their discussions.
The result is their choice. It usually takes the jury a good three hours to decide.
Only one constraint: not to award the prize to an album already rewarded by the festival. , Saturday, January 28 at 7 p.
