This edition, which brought together delegations from more than 88 french-speaking member countries of IRENA, aimed to bring together the French-speaking community This meeting focused on the theme of finding solutions to increase decent jobs in the field of renewable energies within the French-speaking world

Speaking on this occasion, the Minister of Energy, in charge of Natural Resources, Mr Yonis Ali Guedi affirmed that in our country, workers in the renewable energy sector benefit from decent jobs and exercise their professions in good working conditions with optimal security, with strong social protection and are among the best paid workers, compared to the rest of civil servants

He further added that equal pay for men and women was a reality in Djibouti Continuing his intervention, Minister Guedi also indicated that for all the other large-scale energy projects that will soon be launched in our country, the creation of decent jobs is planned

The Minister ended his remarks by formulating concrete proposals with a view to strengthening the skills, knowledge and know-how of our engineering staff through training focused on mastering the most innovative technologies in the field of energy development renewable

The Vice-President and Minister for Climate, Energy, Mobility and Infrastructure of the Government, Mr Philippe Henry, for his part, took stock of the achievements of Wallonia in terms of the development of renewable energies, creation of decent jobs as well as the financing granted to numerous energy projects in French-speaking countries

Mrs Cécile Martin-Phipps, director of the Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development, recalled the role and missions of her institute

After the interventions of the officials, there was a brief presentation of the IRENA 2022 reports on employment and gender as well as the regional sustainable energy skills certification system This was followed by a round table on an exchange devoted to the theme on the agenda of the meeting before closing the meeting with the production of a summary and the formulation of recommendations

On the sidelines of this Francophone consultation meeting, Minister Yonis Ali Guedi had fruitful bilateral meetings with eminent personalities present at this meeting, in particular with the Vice-President and Minister of Climate, Energy, Mobility and Infrastructure of Wallonia, the Director of the Francophonie Institute for Sustainable Development and delegations from a large number of African countries Discussions between the Minister and these senior officials focused on capacity building for Djiboutian engineers, the establishment of a strategic partnership in energy matters (more particularly in the field of the development of renewable energies), rural electrification by implementation of mini solar power plants in more than 19 villages in our country, furthest from the national electricity grid and the creation of a center of excellence dedicated to the development of renewable energies

It should be noted that the World Organization of La Francophonie, through its Institute of La Francophonie for Sustainable Development, works for cooperation in the service of sustainable development and energy transition, in its 88 member states and governments of La Francophonie

The IFDD makes its expertise, support, training and tools available to organisations, political decision-makers and local authorities wishing to integrate sustainable development and the ecological and energy transition into their strategies, planning and projects To inspire change, the IFDD also facilitates dialogue between French-speaking negotiators during conferences on climate, desertification, biodiversity and on the sidelines of events relating to energy and renewable energies
