Sony patent hints at Back Button Attachment for the PS5’s DualSense controller

Sony may be working on a adaptation of its Suddenly Button Zipper for the PlayStation 5's DualSense controller, according to a patent filing published eldest this month. The filing, spotted by IGN, shows off an undulation identical in omnipresence to the explicit DualShock 4 Suddenly Button Attachment, descriptive the artefact as an add-on with buttons that "may be mapped to controller buttons utilizing customized button mapping pre-sets."

The Back Button Attachment, communicated in late 2019, is Sony's low-priced alternative to a quizzed pro controller. It expenses just $30 and adds programmable buttons to the underside of the DualShock 4 that let you remap dire functions retreated for, say, the X or O buttons. In turn, this lets you activate the associated in-game actions without removing your thumbs on the joystick. In a soprano move, Sony opted for smooth grip-like buttons that don't bladder off the controller unlike the more popular floating paddle design, which meant they're neath decumbent to snapping off.

Extra programmable buttons can remake a open-and-shut advantageousness back playing high-stakes dog-eat-dog games. Supra to the Suddenly Button Attachment, PlayStation fans had to await on third-party manufacturers like Scuf for programmable suddenly paddles and other pro controller individualism like customizable thumbsticks.

Although some fans may hypothesize capital the PS5 controller to ship with removable suddenly paddles, Sony didn't end up doing that back the DualSense was apparent last year and launched with the new elate in November. And considering of the shape of the device, the explicit Suddenly Button Zipper does not work on it.

So it stands to reason Sony would develop an upgraded adaptation for the DualSense, except it's anyone's guesswork back we might see that translate from a perceptible filing into a salted softie product.
